The news just from the past week is extremely demoralizing. The entire Republican Party is now dedicated to the Bush regime's notion of absolute executive authority. Scooter Libby was sentenced; the entire Republican Party wants him pardoned. A federal judge says the president cannot deny defendants trials; the entire Republican Party is howling with rage.

And today, when the US Senate tried to censure Alberto Gonzales, the Senate Republicans blocked the effort, indicating their willingness to allow the Justice Department to be misused for political purposes. None of these earned more than a blip on the national news, and therefore registered even less on the awareness of the American people, who are fed a steady diet of Paris Hilton and American Idol. We're doomed.

Yeah, thank god for Olbermann. And you, too, my friend. I hope that the Richards and Keiths of the world can save us. . . . It all rides on 2008. If a Republican gets elected, the radical transformation of America under Bush will become permanent. If a Democrat gets elected, then to a great extent, we will repudiate the Bush departure from American values. I know we disagree about the parties, but the Democrats are our only hope at this juncture.

My opinion is that neither the Democrats of Republicans themselves, party wise, can help America. Individuals within each part can. So Ron Paul or Kucinish would fix things.. too bad they're longshots.

Pierre, I agree with you, Paul and Kucinish will never have a chance, as they speak for the people and not those who hold "The Power" in this country, they will not allow them to win. The last two elections presidential elections were not legitimate, 2008?? who can tell. Perhaps we won't even join in the folly Not that we shouldn't but that it will really be a folly.

Liberty's point about the future is quite important, but your's is more important as if we do not act NOW to dethrone these incredibly inept and corrupt officials, the future of the USA is certainly not a bright one. good job for speaking up.
