Description:

Many Martial Artists use trickery to impress audiences with their "expertise". This Video Clip from Michael Kinney's television program explains how some of these illusions of strength, skill, and power really aren't what they appear to be. Sorry I didn't include the Martial Artists who use swords (sometimes with a blind fold) to cut through mellons and veggies on someone's stomach or being held by an assistant. I could teach my grandmother to do this in 3 minutes.

I guess I should explain the hot pink tie-dyed Karate uniform. I had one in several colors including Black, White, hot lime green, and as you see, HOT PINK. Real Karate fighters are not afraid to wear pink. It does look a little strange, but what the heck, it was the 80's.

It always seemed kinda cheesy when demonstrators used spacers. My instructor insisted that if we were going to do a break for demonstration purposes, there couldn't be any spacers. Definitely makes it harder. Especially when it's on fire. But when I did it, it wasn't a martial arts demonstration, but a demonstration of a physics principle. :) Anyhoo...good video.

It was very frustrating to do a fancy and difficult series of high flying kick breaks only to have someone else win the competition by breaking a few cinderblocks with spacers using a hammer blow. Thanks, I could have included so much more. I also have one where Bill Wallace talks about the 'world champion' scammers.

Well done, Michael. Board breaking etc has its place, not something I've ever attempted as I haven't studied the "genre" in any great detail, (Krav Maga / JKD), and it's nice to see someone dispelling myths and educating the uninformed. It all makes for good entertainment, i suppose, so long as nobody is pulling a con on those wishing to learn. Cheers.

Some of the stuff you are saying is true. However, if it were all true than we could all break 10 bricks if we could break one. Spacers do help but thats not what breaks the bricks

no its all really a joke! i was 5 when i broke my first board and at age 6 or 7 i was breaking through 4 or 5 at a time. lets see someone punch through a real board.like a two inch think and one foot long. talk about a broken hand. its really a joke AND not karate.

The vids good, but I didn't see any breaking 2X4's. Unfortunately there are those that fix their materials to make themselves look better.
