| Indirecting ::: Favorites 2007-10-02 13:51:11 I agree with that.Thought changes and emotional alterations though can be viewed in dynamic MRIs etc(no heart rate measur etc). The system is "closed" but measurable in terms of thermodynamics. And of course no one knows the results of neurotransmitter changes inside this closed system called human body. __________________________________________________ | |
| VimisiDigitalMedia ::: Favorites 2007-09-27 08:39:42 And exactley HOW could ANY "energy" (thoughts, emotions) affect the outcome of ANY physical test? Randi (the JREF) has done tests to see if "energy" (positive AND negative) exists and can affect the outcome of tests... Guess what? IT DOESN'T CHANGE THE OUTCOME! Why? IT DOESN'T EXIST! Conclusion: "Merely wishing for something to happen, will not make it happen." __________________________________________________ | |
| lennyhipp ::: Favorites 2007-09-26 12:46:40 "Randi's attempt at dealing with the accusation didn't deal with it" as D4 said, it wasn't his test! Clearly the homeopaths knew who was supervising? If you read SWIFT, it's full of people claiming silly things like "negative energies" hampering results, but nobody ever complained BEFORE failing! Look at geller/carson for 1 example. __________________________________________________ | |
| lennyhipp ::: Favorites 2007-09-26 12:42:31 "this flaw in Randi's protocol could effectively ruin the credibility" more nonsense... It's NOT SI's challenge! if the JREF claims it's paranormal, and wants to test it as paranormal, (and put their $1M on the line) then it's clearly up to them! He ignored you, because what you're suggesting is loony. He's rational enough to look into things that call the challenge credibility into question! __________________________________________________ | |
| lennyhipp ::: Favorites 2007-09-26 12:39:30 "This renders Randi's absence ineffective" also, the main reason Randi isn't at most of the tests is because JREF would be bankrupt if he flew around the world everytime a self-delusional loon tried to prove something he wasn't capable of doing! __________________________________________________ | |
| lennyhipp ::: Favorites 2007-09-26 12:36:25 "What about the negative influences of their skeptical vibrations?" wow... you CANNOT be serious! What you're suggesting is ALMOST as silly as homeopathy itself! "Negative vibrations?" This isn't Star Trek, this is the real world. If you could prove a skeptic being there had an outcome on the tests, YOU could win the million! __________________________________________________ | |
| aikiboy1111111 ::: Favorites 2007-09-25 18:00:49 You missed the quote. Randi stayed absent because he was accused of his skepticism hampering positive results. Another skeptic, vice president of the royal society supervised the experiment. Randi's attempt at dealing with the accusation didn't deal with it. And pertaining to psychic phenomena, which are supposedly paranormal, this could be considered a flaw in testing. That's what's pissing me off. __________________________________________________ | |
| d4005 ::: Favorites 2007-09-25 17:01:07 I think you're over-estimating the contribution Randi made to the test. It was the BBC and the Royal Society that came up with the test, and it was approved by "the homeopathy believers". The results didn't need interpreting by skeptics or believers, they were plain to see. __________________________________________________ | |
| aikiboy1111111 ::: Favorites 2007-09-25 16:44:41 [cont] Even the source he had used to prove his point actually still showed another skeptical organization involved. So, needless to say, I'm pissed that Randi isn't willing to scientifically investigate the ONE variable/claim which could undo the last ad hoc statement which supports belief in the paranormal. Anyway, to see further about this, watch my videos, A Look Into the Psychic, Update, Parts 1, 2, and 3. __________________________________________________ | |
| aikiboy1111111 ::: Favorites 2007-09-25 16:43:10 [cont] I emailed him with all available data on this, including my pointing out the flaw saying he should run empirical tests to see if observation by skeptics did hamper psychic phenomena. He blew me off saying he stayed away from tests to deal with the issue, just begging the question, and completely ignoring the flaw I pointed out. __________________________________________________ | |
| aikiboy1111111 ::: Favorites 2007-09-25 16:42:51 [cont] This renders Randi's absence ineffective. What's worse is that back in 2000, the skeptical inquirer published data which indicated that this issue was an experimenter effect. If it was a paranormal one, like belief effecting results, this flaw in Randi's protocol could effectively ruin the credibility of the One Million Dollar Challenge. __________________________________________________ | |
| aikiboy1111111 ::: Favorites 2007-09-25 16:40:06 [cont] Now here's the interesting bit, "... The Vice-President of the Royal Society, Professor John Enderby oversaw the experiment..." (If you want, pm me for the original link). So regardless, a skeptic was still supervising. What about the negative influences of their skeptical vibrations? This isn't the only example of this problem. Practically every test has a skeptic running it, whether a JREF member, or a member of another skeptical organization. __________________________________________________ | |
| aikiboy1111111 ::: Favorites 2007-09-25 16:35:04 [cont] Randi makes a great to do about his skepticism not having "negative influences" on tests because he sometimes stays unaware of the date and location of tests. This Horizons experiment was a prime example. However, here's a quote from the BBC Horizons page about the Scientific Community's view of Homeopathy at the time of the testing, "...Unsurprisingly, the scientific community greeted this idea with scepticism..." __________________________________________________ | |
| aikiboy1111111 ::: Favorites 2007-09-25 16:32:25 I'm not a believer in homeopathy myself, but this is the prime example of the greatest flaw in the One Million Dollar Challenge, and though I am a skeptic, I am pissed Randi hasn't taken steps to counteract this. __________________________________________________ | |
| t795 ::: Favorites 2007-09-24 15:20:46 I wish i was dishonest enough to be a homeopath. Sounds like a good dodge. __________________________________________________ | |
